How to practise effectively

Short, frequent sessions beat long, occasional ones. Ten minutes a day — a handful of 30- or 60-second tests — builds muscle memory faster than an hour once a week.

Focus on accuracy first. Aim for 96% or higher and let speed follow. If your accuracy drops below that, slow down slightly on the next test. Typing fast with many errors trains your fingers to make the same mistakes.

Use quotes to practise real writing

Switch to quote mode to practise capital letters and punctuation — commas, full stops and apostrophes slow most people down more than letters do.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to improve typing speed?

With 10–15 minutes of daily practice, most people see a noticeable improvement within two to four weeks.

Should I learn touch typing?

If you look at the keyboard while typing, learning touch typing is the single biggest improvement you can make, even though you'll be slower for the first week or two.
