Why practise numbers separately?

Most typing tests are almost entirely letters, so the number row gets very little practice. If your work involves invoices, codes, phone numbers or spreadsheets, number speed matters as much as word speed. This test uses random groups of one to four digits so you can't rely on memorising patterns.

If you use a numeric keypad, keep your hand anchored on the 5 key (it usually has a raised bump) and reach outwards — the same idea as home-row touch typing.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use the numpad?

Yes, both the top number row and the numeric keypad work.

How is number typing speed measured?

The same way as words: every five characters (including spaces) count as one word.
